DANCE

Ballet

Our Ballet classes teach technique using the Australian Dance Vision (ADV) syllabus as well as teaching creative choreography from different styles of ballet (classical, romantic, neoclassical and contemporary) and providing a pilates-based strength and fitness program tailored for dancers. Internal assessments are conducted annually, with an option to then sit external exams for those who are interested.

Ballet/Contemporary

Ballet/Contemporary takes students through early classical ballet grades (using the Australian Dance Vision syllabus) as well as teaching contemporary dance foundations. Contemporary dance is an expressive style that combines elements from several dance genres, striving to communicate and idea or emotion through movement. This class is a great way for younger students to try both styles.

Pointe

Pointe is the progression of classical ballet technique in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. This class is offered as an extension and is open to students who pass a strength and technique assessment. Students who wish to dance en pointe undergo a pointe preparation program, designed by our director Claire Toose who is both a dance teacher and Paediatric Physiotherapist.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre combines singing, acting and dance in a dynamic and fun class. Students learn techniques from all aspects of performance and learn both well-known numbers from broadway shows and movies, as well as developing other songs or stories in the style of musical theatre.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics & modern dance. The movement often draws inspiration from the lyrics of a song and is oriented toward the dancer's emotional responses rather than to an underlying formal choreographic structure. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions, such as love, joy, romantic yearning or anger.
